Every affiliate marketers craves to make lots of money via the affiliated links.
Of course,profit is one of the major factors to determine whether a marketing campaign is successful or not. So, you have to choose a great, thriving niche.
Next, you have to try finding a suitable affiliate program that will both serve the requirements of the targeted customers and that still pay you a good commission.

Here are some tips to remember when choosing an affiliate marketing program:
How high is the percentage of commission?
There are some programs like Amazon which offer 2-10% commission while there are others that offer 25-60% specifically the binary options(where an affiliate marketer can earn up to 50% commission from the losing traders).
Just because a commission is small does not mean that it is not a good program. You have to think about the flow of traffic using Google Analytics so as to decide if there will be enough buyers to make up the profits in volume.
What tools does the merchant provide?

 Some vendors provide great sales tools such as banners, videos and sample articles that you can rewrite. Some marketing managers even conduct live webinars to educate a group of affiliates on the SEO and some other valuable marketing skills to help reach out to more people as possible. With the help of all these, it has made affiliate marketing a less arduous task.
Tracking:
You may want to know what kind of tracking the vendor has in place for your sales. Have there been any complaints about the vendor not paying or tracking properly?
What is the length of the cookie?
If someone visits the given affiliate link, how long will they honour any sales from that link? Some programs are only 24 hours while others will honour a sale up to 60-365 days!
As with any other business, it pays to do your research upfront so there are no bad surprises later.
You want to choose solid, reputable companies like Amazon so that you can depend on them and the customers you sell to can depend on the product as well. This just makes good business sense, and will help you protect all of the hard work you do!
